Using a hand held hammer to pound in those nails is something of the past now. I’ve never though the good ol’ trusty hammer would be replaced, but it looks like hammers are being replaced by the coil nailer.

The coil nailer is a very efficient tool that can make any nailing project an absolute breeze. You can finish the job in a fraction of the time that it would take you with a hammer.

Coil nailers are super effective at driving a lot of nails within a short period of time. They are similar to their little brother, the power nailer, but pack more of a punch and are more orientated towards serious projects. Remember, doing a job in less time can mean more money – that’s why it’s a good investment to replace your regular hammers with coil nailers. Since you can save a lot of time, coil nailers are quite popular with construction crews.

When it comes to nailers, you have a couple choices. You might look at getting a stick power nailer, which basically uses a strip of nails – this device functions similar to a  staple gun. You might get say 50 or so nails per strip. Strip nailers are used for small project types. For larger projects, the coil nailer is better choice, coil nailers hold up to 300 nails at the same time.

Power nailers can be confusing to choose from – there are so many different options. Fortunately, it’s not rocket science and there are a few things you can look for to aid the buying process.

  1. You should determine what sort of projects you will be using the coil nailer for. If you are building a structure on a house, you will probably need some sort of framing nailer. If you are building something small like furniture, a finishing nailer is what you are going to need.
  2. You need to have a compressor to power the coil nailer. If you don’t have one, you are going to have to get one. As an alternative, you can look at getting cordless coil nailer, but these might not pack as much of a punch when it comes to speed and power.
  3. You are going to need to decide what kind of nails you need. Some power nailers might use special nails provided by the manufacture.

Consider getting a cordless nailer if you don’t want to pay for the air compressor. However, cordless nailers are more expensive the regular coil nail guns.
